Videoconference Annual Meeting

Dr. Nick Yphantides discusses COVID-19

Men's Club members will vote on the proposed Men's Club Board slate for 7/2020 to 6/2022.

The TAS Men’s Club invites all of the Temple Adat Shalom community to view our presentation of Dr. Nick Yphantides. The San Diego County "face" of the COVID-19 pandemic will be joining us for a Men's Club ZOOM virtual public health update. (We will send out a link to the speaker’s program closer to the date.)

Dr. Nick Yphantides is an advocate for those in his community who need it the most. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for San Diego County and its 3.2 million residents (1% of America's population).  He is the Founding Co-Chair of San Diego's Childhood Obesity Initiative. He was the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of one the largest network of Community Clinics in San Diego County, the CMO of the Council of Community Clinics and was the publicly elected Chairman of the Board for Palomar Health, the largest Public Hospital District in California.

Dr. Nick is thankful for the fact that he has never seen a patient with private insurance in his life.  As a result of his personal health transformation, he now advocates for population health transformation.  Dr. Nick is a cancer survivor and has been to as many countries as he is old.  His daughters, Veronique and Zoe, are the joys of his life. They make their home in Escondido, California.

Dr. Yphantides has had painful, personal experience with contagious diseases that bring families together, then tear them apart.  In 2009, as he stepped into his role as San Diego County’s chief medical officer, his own father succumbed to the H1N1 swine flu. George Yphantides, 70, went on record as the third person in the country to die of this infectious disease, which emerged in San Diego County. A vaccine became available a short while later.

In this time of unprecedented pandemic, this will be a program not to be missed!
