Worship & Holidays Introduction
Erev Shabbat ServicesAt Temple Adat Shalom we celebrate the richness of the Shabbat experience by offering both traditional Shabbat services as well as Shabbat services with particular themes: Family Shabbat services specifically cater to families with younger children. The worship lasts about an hour and reinforces the prayers and music learned in our religious school. Our junior choir performs during this service which is followed by an Oneg Shabbat. Shabbat Morning Our celebration of Shabbat continues on Shabbat morning. When there is no B'nai Mitzvah called to Torah, we have an informal Torah Study and diccussion. Music is a vital part of all our religious services, and whether singing together or responding to the choir, members experience worship in a joyful, spiritual way. Simchot, joyous life-cycle events including babynamings, wedding blessings and aufrufs, special anniversary and birthday blessings are marked during our worship services. We also offer prayers for those in need of healing as well as those who have recovered from illness, injury or escaped danger. All are welcome to share in the celebration of Shabbat at Temple Adat Shalom. Daily Minyan Temple Adat Shalom provides a weekday afternoon or evening service that lasts about 30 minutes and includes the daily service liturgy and well as time for private meditation. It is an opportunity to say Kaddish daily, to meditate in silence, to pray for healing, to practice Hebrew, and to give thanks. Holidays and High Holydays
The congregation gathers for worship on all the holidays of the Jewish year, including Sukkot, Shavuot, Pesach, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah,
Purim, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Hanukkah, and Tu Bishvat.Temple Adat Shalom adds to the beauty of the holidays with special touches of our own. The High Holyday season is ushered in with a late-night Selichot service of creative worship. On the afternoon of Rosh Hashanah, congregants join in a Tashlich service conducted at Lake Poway. On Yom Kippur, services culminate with a deeply touching Yiskor service, Neilah service, and Havdalah. We host age-appropriate activities and services for all children during the High Holydays, ranging from babysitting, to programs for children of various ages. |
