Women of Reform Judaism
Temple Adat Shalom Sisterhood is the women's auxiliary associated with Temple Adat Shalom, Poway, CA. We
are affiliated with Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) and the WRJ Pacific District (encompassing most of the
western U.S.)
TAS Sisterhood works in three realms:
- Supporting Temple Adat Shalom and its community
- Supporting the community at large
- Supporting national and international causes that affect the Reform Jewish movement.
TAS Sisterhood provides social activities for women and their families around the Temple. In addition to
our monthly meetings, we also have Special Interest Groups, which meet monthly as well as other special
opportunities for socialization and fun. We have a wonderful group of women who meet to read to our
pre-school students on a regular basis.
TAS Sisterhood underwrites the following:
- Ganon Gil Early Childhood Center projects
- The madrachim (student teacher) program of our religious school, Mosad Shalom
- Youth Group (TASTY) district and national events as well as its yearly Shabbat Dinner and Service
TAS Sisterhood also underwrites monthly breakfasts at the Lee Turner Soup Kitchen at Interfaith Community
Services, provides monthly luncheons to Tikkun House, a shelter for women with mental disabilities, and
hosts a Holiday party each year for the women and children of St. Clare's Homes, a shelter for battered
and abused women; we provide, on a yearly basis, school supplies for their children as well.
TAS Sisterhood, through our membership in Women of Reform Judaism supports the WRJ's YES
(Youth, Education and Special Projects) Fund that includes:
- roviding scholarships to every rabbinic student at HUC-JIR and to many future cantors and future Jewish educators
- Contributing to scholarship aid for Israeli students studying at HUC-JIR, Jerusalem campus
- Giving overseas rabbinic scholarship aid to individual students who will then return to their own countries to serve as rabbis
- Building pre-schools in Israel and promoting religious pluralism in Israel through WUPJ (the World Union for Progressive Judaism)
Be a part of the future of Reform Judaism, JOIN SISTERHOOD today! Our dues are $36 per year and include free
admission to our paid-up dinners in the Fall and Spring and as well as a free subscription to our monthly
