Jewish Holidays/Calendar Sprinkled around the year, the Jewish Holidays are a nourishing oasis in time, offering us a vital drink from Judaism's living waters. Rich in meaning, the holidays provide us with precious opportunities to pause and refresh ourselves from life's long and weary journey. The Jewish day begins and ends at sundown. Thus, each of the Jewish holidays begin at sundown of the day preceding the date shown and end at sundown of the (last) date shown. Since the Jewish calendar begins with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish year always straddles two years from the secular calendar. In other words, spring holidays (such as Pesach and Shavuot) occur in the secular year following Rosh Hashanah. Note that not all Jews observe two days for holidays shown as lasting two days. Note that each holiday name is a link to additional information about that holiday.
