Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Some members who did not have the opportunity to celebrate their passage into Jewish adulthood at age 13 want to experience the joy of celebrating it later in life. Our Adult Education program sponsors a special class for men and women wishing to have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony.

·    ·    ·    ·    ·

New Class Begins Mon, Oct 23, 2007, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
This class will be the essential component of study in preparation for an adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. It will include study of Jewish history, liturgy, philosophy/theology, ritual, and rabbinic literature, as well as discussions of Jewish identity and Reform Judaism. In addition to this course work, students will prepare for the ceremony by learning Torah reading and reviewing prayers with the Cantor, working on speeches with a Rabbi, and fulfilling a community service obligation. A minimum of four students is necessary. The instructor for this class will be Rabbi Tamar Malino.

Prerequisites: Two years of study in our adult education program or comparable preparation and a beginning knowledge of Hebrew. After the first meeting, this class will be on Monday nights, bi-weekly through June, 2007. The Adult B’nai Mitzvah ceremony will be celebrated at the Simchat Torah service on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.
